Two day round trip hike in high alpine landscape with a technically difficult climb to the Hockenhorn as a bonus.

- Starting point: Lauchernalp (Cable car station)
- End point: Lauchernalp (Cable car station)
- Length: 17.2km
- Duration: 8h
- Ascending altitude: 1460m
- Descending altitude: 1460m
Details for the way from Lauchernalp to Lötschenpasshütte and back you can find in our post “Lötschenpasshütte – enjoy lunch in no man’s land“. Once you have arrived at Lötschenpasshütte (reservation needed in adavace) enjoy a tasty dinner at a big table with other hikers. The next morning the homemade breakfast will be served until 7.30am. Don’t miss it! The starting point of this hike is behind the cabin. Not far away from the cabin you need to cross a first unmarked field. Stone piles help you to keep in the right direction. Then, follow the well marked path (white-blue-white) through a relatively flat section, until you reach a big snow field that you will lead you behind the Klein Hockenhorn. The last part of the hike is technically difficult and you need to use your best capricorn climbing skills and your hands. There are no official signs anymore, but you will find the meandering way up to the top of the Hockenhorn. Once you have arrived at the top, you will enjoy a wonderful view on glaciers, the Lötschental, Gasterntal and the highest peaks of the Swiss alps (Dom, Dufourspitze, Matterhorn, Jungfrau and many more). Go down the same way to the Lötschenpasshütte and eventually to Lauchernalp.
Hint: Instead of going back down from Lötschenpass to Lauchernalp, you also have the option to descend on the other side of the pass to Gasterntal and Kandersteg. This one-way option will take you approximately 5h from Lötschenpass to Kandersteg. In case you need to go back to Wiler, take the train from Kandersteg to Goppenstein and then a bus to Wiler.
