Duration: 5h30
Ascending altitude: 1’013m
Descending altitude: 1’013m
The starting point for this hike is the Jorasse chairlift station above Ovronnaz. Follow the trail markings 220 Tour de Grand Chavalard throughout the hike. After about one kilometre, you will come to the junction at Petit Pré. Follow signpost 220 in the direction of the Lui d’Août hut. The path descends for most of the next kilometres until you reach a car park. From there, the trail climbs and runs along the southern flank of the Grand Chavalard, with wonderful views of the Rhone Valley. This passage is also the junction for the ascent to the summit. Once you have completed this climb, you will see Lac Inférieur de Fully nestled in a green plateau. Keep to the western flank, along Lac Supérieur de Fully to the Col de Fenestral, from where you have a view of Mont Blanc. Now it’s all downhill again towards Petit Pré and then back to the Jorasse chairlift station.
Tipp: If you are an advanced hiker you can also climb up to the peak of Grand Chavalard, which adds another 800 m in altitude to this hike. A night in the Cabane de Sorniot would be recommended in this case.
