Lac de Louvie – It feels like the Himalayas

Challenging round trip hike with a steep ascent and descent. The reward is a stunning view of Lac de Louvie as well as of the mighty glaciers at the Grand Combin.

Starting point: Fionnay
End point: Fionnay
Length: 10.9km
Duration: 5h15
Ascending altitude: 1’171m
Descending altitude: 1’171m

The trail starts at the Dortoir de Fionnay and then zigzags quite steeply uphill. The higher you get, the more beautiful the view of the Glacier de Corbassière on the other side of the valley becomes. After climbing ca. 700 metres in altitude, you reach the Cabane de Louvie with the lake of the same name in the background. It is worth walking clockwise around the lake. After walking three quarters of the way around the lake, you reach a junction where you climb steeply up the slope towards Le Dâ. Once you reach the Col du Bec d’Aigle, the only way to go is down to the valley. The steep mountain slopes and the glacier give you the impression of being in the Himalayas. At the Le Dâ junction, turn towards Fionnay and follow the path further down the valley until you reach the starting point again.
