Lavaux (UNESCO) – Stroll through the scenic vineyards

Epic one-way trip through the UNESCO heritage with its medieval villages, steep vineyards and a beautiful view on the shimmering lake and distinctive Dents du Midi.

  • Starting point: St. Saphorin
  • End point: Lutry
  • Length: 10.4km
  • Duration: 3h
  • Ascending altitude: 310m
  • Descending altitude: 316m

Your hike begins at the train station of St. Staphorin, where you take the path that goes upwards across the medieval village. Once you reach the larger path that leads through the vineyards, just follow the yellow signs. You will pass the villages of Rivaz, Epesses and Riex. All the way you can enjoy an unforgettable view on the shimmering lake and a great number of mountain peaks. When you reach Villette, the path will lead downwards to the lake. For the last part of the hike, you will walk right along the lake. If you chose a hot summer day for your hike, enjoy a swim before heading to the trainstation of Lutry.

Hint: Visit Lavaux during the “Caves ouvertes” in spring: buy your glass and a wine pass, stroll from one cellar to the next and taste some good wine and food.
