In under 3 hours, this roundtrip gives you the opportunity to familiarze yoursef with some of the most typical Swiss attributes: high mountain peaks, crystal clear lakes, cows and Rösti.

- Starting point: Wasserauen (train station)
- End point: Wasserauen (train station)
- Length: 6.3km
- Duration: 3h
- Ascending altitude: 868m
- Descending altitude: 156m
Your hike starts at the train station of Wasserauen. Follow the yellow signs in the direction of Seealpsee. After a first segment that is fairly steep, you will reach the mountain lake Seealpsee, where you can enjoy an idylic view of the Säntis, the highest peak of eastern Switzerland. Take your time to circle the lake, before another steep path leads you to the world-famous restaurant Äscher. Here, surrounded by stunning scenery, you can enjoy a typical Swiss Rösti. The final part of the path leads you through a cave up to Ebenalp. From there the cablecar takes you back to Wasserauen.
Hint: If you have an additional day left, then continue from Ebenalp to Schäfler. There is a traditional mountain inn to stay in over night (reserve in advance). That way, you can climb the Säntis the next day. More information about this hike in “Säntis – Mount the Top of Eastern Switzerland.”
